What is an oracle in blockchain?
An oracle is a service that brings verified off-chain data on-chain so smart contracts can react to real-world events. Without oracles, a contract has no reliable way to know that a claim was approved, a shipment arrived, or a price crossed a threshold.

How does Chainlink help with insurance eligibility?
Chainlink oracles fetch and cryptographically attest to eligibility responses from payer systems, then feed them to on-chain adjudication logic. That lets MEDBlock automate approvals and payouts against a verifiable record of what the payer actually said, at what time.

Is Chainlink HIPAA compliant?
Chainlink itself is neutral infrastructure. MEDBlock never sends PHI through public oracle networks. Chainlink transports hashes, attestations, and non-PHI status codes (eligible / not eligible, approved / denied) never plaintext PHI. PHI stays in HIPAA-eligible encrypted stores. Non-PHI signals only: eligibility booleans, adjudication status, event confirmations (delivery, sample received, prescription filled), price and FX feeds, and cryptographic hashes of larger off-chain payloads.

How secure are Chainlink oracles?
Chainlink uses decentralized oracle networks (DONs) where multiple independent nodes fetch, sign, and aggregate data before it reaches the chain. That removes single-provider risk and is why Chainlink secures a large share of DeFi value today.

Why not build a custom oracle?
A custom, single-operator oracle is a single point of failure and a single point of manipulation which defeats much of the point of putting logic on chain. Chainlink's decentralized model gives auditors, regulators, and counterparties a stronger trust story out of the box.
